Mike and Ron are former co-workers who recently retired on March 1st. This party was at Benny’s in Marysville. It was a good time to see them off to retirement, and of course, see other co-workers whom I haven’t seen in a while.
Mundanely interesting … today

An old tradition long observed with previous Honda co-workers is to share pie on Pi Day (3.14159 …. you know the drill). I hosted the annual get-together this year, so it was coffee and pie at my house this morning. Today is also Jiro’s 9th birthday, so there’s an extra reason to celebrate! (You can see his behind in the photo below.)
A sampling of most recent notable eats.
Just recently finished this audio book, listened to mostly during my long walks. Highly recommended!

Sometimes I get together with long-retired, previous co-workers to reminisce the ‘good old days’ and for lively discussions of the topics du jour over breakfast. And it’s always fun to be the baby in the group!

The thermostat for the floor heater in my primary bathroom died recently (after almost 10 years!) so it got replaced this past weekend.

A bunch of 10-12 year olds playing basketball is like herding cats. It’s fun to watch, though!

Step-by-step deconstruction of my homemade chicken teriyaki dinner this past Sunday. Teriyaki sauce and miso soup were made from scratch as well.

So, this was the birthday party (for Kevin) that the chocolate bundt cake was for. But before dessert, the family enjoyed some homemade Korean BBQ. It was indoors, so the smoke alarms got busy!

I made a chocolate bundt cake with cream cheese frosting, in the style of Nothing Bundt Cakes for a family member’s birthday. I think it was a success, considering it was my first attempt.
Another trip to the Red Cross donation center in town was today’s good deed.

This morning’s 5K walk was a bit … snowy. Definitely chilly. Snowilly?

So, there’s a new Korean fried chicken place in town: 92 Chicken in downtown Delaware, OH. Tried the Half Traditional Crispy Fried Soy Garlic Chicken. It was very good!

Some more carry-over baking effects from the holidays: this time, an easy but scrumptious, moist orange bundt cake.

Our annual ‘Breakfast Club’ holiday get-together was a bit late this year due to schedule conflicts as well as some illness. Nevertheless, our potluck dinner was a success, largely gluten-free, but not without Manhattans.

Even puppies can appreciate a beautiful sunset.

In continuation of my holiday culinary adventures, I made some shrimp sushi bake cups, a variation on the popular sushi bakes. I also prepared more fruity, Christmassy pavlovas for my next-door neighbors.
A snow bomb cyclone descended upon much of the country overnight, plunging most of the Midwest in negative single-digit temps (negative double-digit wind chills!) and dumping tons of snow everywhere, more than enough to make everyone’s dreams of a white Christmas come true!
