These ominous-looking clouds appeared this past weekend just before the summer thunderstorm rolled in. Shortly after, the downpour began.

Mindless Task Calms the Mind
With a podcast on the AirPods, bucket hat and sunglasses on, and lots of sunblock, mowing the yard (all two and a half acres of it), can take over two hours of a mindless task. But it can also be calming, and the time outside in the sun is always time well spent.
2024 Ann Arbor Art Fairs

Team Satoh and I drove up to Michigan to go to this year’s Ann Arbor Art Fairs, a local summer tradition and a stand-out memory from my U of M days, that takes over downtown Ann Arbor’s streets over 3 days every July. It was a warm and sunny day, perfect for strolling around endless booths of purveyors of every art form. It was great for people-watching, too!
The next day, we drove up further north to Midland to visit and enjoy lunch with family before the long trip back home.

City traffic and the tropical heat give way to the milder breezes and rice fields of Central Luzon as we drive up north towards the Cordillera Mountains and finally, the cooler temps of the City of Pines, Baguio City, the summer capital of the Philippines.
Brisket Friday
Smoked a couple of briskets overnight on Thursday for (a) a family dinner on Friday, and (b) a promised gift for a friend whose wedding I wasn't able to attend due to a schedule conflict. In the end, both parties were extremely pleased with the result.

Saturday’s dinner party main course was a pair of 3-lb tomahawk ribeyes, prepared sous vide style and finished on the grill. A second dish of spicy prawns with a spicy lime mango salsa rounded up the surf and turf theme.
