Took advantage of Thursday evening’s lovely warm and sunny weather to ride out with a friend to Waldo, home of the famous fried bologna sandwich.
Mundanely interesting … today
A cookout this past weekend to celebrate the Moodster’s birthday and to bid farewell to Steve who’s moving back to Alabama.
Now that the backyard landscape is finished (and thriving despite this recent stretch of dry and hot weather), I’ve been putting the BGE to use in its new table setup.
Work colleague and good friend @steve_rodia was in town from B-ham, AL so it was a good reason to get together for some good eats.
Tonight’s ramen fix courtesy of Fukuryu Ramen.
Putting another of my Florence cooking classes to the test, I made a batch of light-as-air Fior di Latte gelato and enjoyed some with a generous drizzle of the 12-yr old Aceto Balsamico Tradizionale that I brought home from Reggio Emilia. It truly is a taste of heaven, one of life’s little luxuries!
Baked goods from Dan The Baker.
Strawberry and vanilla bean cream fruit tart with edible flowers and a ham and gruyere croissant.
Country sourdough bread.
Putting the Italian cooking classes I took in Florence to the test at home.
A gallery of this year’s homemade baked holiday sweets.
Made a batch of chocolate ginger molasses cookies. Also, two loaves of banana bread, one with chocolate chips. It’s a baked chocolate sweets kinda Sunday evening.
The elevated egg sandwich with millionaire’s bacon. Philip partakes in solid food for the first time.
I see you eyeing those crispy pork belly bites!
Puff pastry magic!
Before.

This Sunday’s project.

The first time I had matcha ice cream was in Japan many years ago. It was made by Haagen Dazs, surprisingly, and it quickly became my favorite flavor of that brand. I made matcha ice cream this past weekend using ceremonial grade matcha powder. First time doing so. Haagen Dazs has nothing on it.
Neighbor stopped by this evening to drop off some bounty from this year’s bumper crop. And now all I can think of are some fresh pico de gallo, maybe Margherita pizza, or better yet, pasta puttanesca ...
Good old reliable Trifecta with a twist: carrot cake pancake and millionaire’s bacon.
A co-worker/good friend from my Canada days was in town so dinner at a local pizzeria (Harvest in old Dublin) was in order.
First time at VASO Rooftop Restaurant at AC Hotel Dublin was quite a lovely experience. Food was great (tapas!) and the ambiance was unbeatable. Definitely worth many return trips!
